Carol J. Atkins Audiology Clinic was established in 1999 with a major focus to identify children and adults who experience auditory processing disorders. Mrs. Atkins was certified as a Clinical Audiologist in 1973 by American Speech, Language & Hearing Association following a clinical internship at Cook County Hospital, Chicago, San Francisco Speech & Hearing Center and Senior Citizen Center of San Francisco. Her career began as a research audiologist at UCLA. Her clinical experience was obtained at Providence Speech & Hearing Center and various ENT practices. Carol developed an interest in auditory processing as an instructor at Long Beach State University. Her work in auditory processing continued as a Senior Audiology at Rady’s Children’s Hospital, San Diego. Carol also diagnosed hearing loss in infants and toddlers and provided aural rehabilitation and fit hearing aids.
Carol collaborated with Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Neuro Psychologists, Developmental Optometrists and Occupational Therapists to develop an assessment tool to identify the areas of need for support services. Additionally, Carol has been able to refer clients to the appropriate providers; public, private or vocational. More than 4,000 clients have been seen by Carol. Through education and life experience, Carol has developed a unique and caring insight.
